How is similarity calculated?
It uses the Sørensen–Dice coefficient over character pairs, which catches reordered and lightly edited text better than a plain word match. 100% means identical; below about 30% means largely different.
Is this a plagiarism checker?
No, and it is important to be clear about that. It compares two texts you provide. It does not search the web or any database, so it cannot tell you whether text appears elsewhere online.
